Ryan Shawcross retires - Played 494 professional games
Ryan Shawcross has retired from professional football. The news was announced by his current club Inter Miami CF on Tuesday morning. The 34-year-old defender has played 494 professional games over 16 years for Manchester United, Royal Antwerp, Stoke City and Inter Miami CF. The defender joined Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF ahead of the 2021 season and managed 12 appearances for the club (no goals).
“After having the fortune of enjoying a 16-year playing career, being a part of top organizations of the likes of Inter Miami, Stoke City and Manchester United, I would like to announce my retirement from professional football," Shawcross said in a Inter Miami CF club statement. "Despite stepping out of my playing career due to injury, my passion for the game is still intact, and after having secured my coaching licenses, I am looking forward to pursuing a career in coaching."
Shawcross started his career with Manchester United before playing one season with Royal Antwerp in Belgium. He then joined Stoke City in 2007/08 and played 453 games (25 goals and 16 assists) games for the club.
