Championship market values: Dewsbury-Hall claims top spot - Clarke revives his career

Following the closure of the summer transfer window and after the first 13 match days have been played, Transfermarkt has adjusted the market values of 197 Championship players in an interim update. Among the biggest winners are Leicester midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Sunderland forward Jack Clarke, who both aim to return to the Premier League next season. Although Dewsbury-Hall’s teammate Wilfred Ndidi is the biggest loser of the update, the league leaders can maintain their spot at the top of the squad value rankings thanks to their strong start to the season.

With 12 wins from 13 matches, Leicester are dominating the English second division and already sit 14 points ahead of third-placed Leeds. Following the departures of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, homegrown talent Dewsbury-Hall has stepped up his game and contributed five goals and five assists in 13 league games so far. Having already been linked with clubs like Liverpool in the summer, the 25-year-old increases his market value from €25 million to €30m and could become the next English midfielder to leave King Power Stadium for a significant fee. Following a lack of interest in the summer, and only two appearances over 90 minutes this season, teammate Ndidi loses €7m in market value and drops to €18m.

After struggling to break into Tottenham’s first team following a €11m move from Leeds in 2019, Sunderland forward Clarke has revived his career in the northeast. Currently topping the Championship’s scoring charts with nine goals from 13 matches, the 22-year-old was one of the main reasons for the Black Cats’ impressive start to the campaign and has played himself onto the radar of several Premier League clubs again. With a plus of €3m to €15m, the former English youth international reaches a new career high.

Market values: Surprise team Ipswich upgraded - Saints biggest losers

Further winners include youngsters such as Leeds United’s Archie Gray (+€5.8m to €6m), Manchester City loanee Callum Doyle (+€5m to €15m) of Leicester and Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney (+€4.5m to €7m). Foxes goalkeeper Mads Hermansen (+€3.5m to €7m) and Hackney’s teammate Emmanuel Latte Lath (+€3m to €4.5m) belong to the group of footballers whose market values were adjusted because of the fees paid for their services in the summer. Several Ipswich players were rewarded for their performances as well, as the newly-promoted side currently sit second in the Championship table thanks to Nathan Broadhead (+€2m to €3m) and George Hirst (+€1m to €1.8m), among others.

Besides Ndidi, other notable market value losers include Leeds United full-backs Junior Firpo (-€3m to €7m) and Djed Spence (-€2m to €8m), who joined the Elland Road side on loan from Tottenham, and Southampton pair Kamaldeen Sulemana (-€4m to €18m) and Kyle Walker-Peters (-€3m to €22m). With a total drop of €16m to €219m, the Saints are also the biggest losers in the squad value rankings, with Leicester the only of the three relegated sides being able to maintain their overall valuation.
