Sunderland are still trying to sign U.S. defender DeAndre Yedlin from Tottenham Hotspur, sources told ESPN FC.
Yedlin, 23, was not in the squad for Spurs' 1-1 draw at Everton on Saturday -- the opening day of the new Premier League season -- as discussions continue with hopes of a deal before the end of the transfer window on Aug. 31.
The full-back enjoyed a breakout last season on loan with the Black Cats, making 21 starts under then-manager Sam Allardyce and helping the club avoid relegation from England's top flight.
