Charlotte FC loan Sergio Ruiz to Las Palmas - "Perfect fit for Sergio"
Major League Soccer expansion franchise Charlotte FC have loaned out Sergio Ruiz to LaLiga2 side UD Las Palmas. Ruiz became the club's first-ever signing this fall but with expansion postponed to 2022 the club needed to find a new home for the player.
“After carefully considering our options in Europe, we decided it was a perfect fit for Sergio to join Las Palmas,” sporting director Zoran Krneta, said in a club statement. “LaLiga2 is a strong league that Sergio knows well and one that suits his playing style. Las Palmas is a big club intent on returning to La Liga, and they view Sergio as a key player in achieving that goal. We look forward to welcoming Sergio back to Charlotte ahead of our 2022 inaugural season.”
MLSSoccer.com, in the meantime, reported that Charlotte faced some stiff competition when it came to signing the player in the first place. MLS transfer insider Tom Bogert wrote on Thursday that the expansion franchise faced stiff competition from several Championship sides. Bogert also wrote that the loan deal includes incentives for Las Palmas to play the player.
