Pedri becomes more expensive for Barça - Add-ons could see fee grow significantly

In the summer of 2019, FC Barcelona signed 16-year-old Pedri from Spain's second division side UD Las Palmas. The attacking player was considered a promising talent and, without any difficulties, became an important part of Ronald Koeman's first team. The transfer fee was just €5 million, according to Marca, at first glance a fantastic deal for Barça. The Spanish paper have published some further details about the transfer, which suggests it was not quite as a fantastic deal as the initial fee suggests. In fact, the player could become the second most expensive teenager in the club's history.

Barcelona previously communicated the following: Las Palmas will receive 15% of any future transfer. The exit-clause is €100 million while he is playing for the reserve side, but after making the jump to the first team, the exit-clause has grown to €400 million. The transfer fee could also make a significant jump. According to Marca, the fee could grow to €22 million, more than four times the fee that Barça paid initially.

Should Pedri manage 25 appearances across all competitions, Las Palmas will receive an additional €4 million. Prerequisite: the player has to have played at least 45 minutes in each of the games. Furthermore, should Pedri be invited to the Spanish national team regularly—he currently has three caps for Spain's U21—then Las Palmas will receive another €2 million.
