Official: Bakambu joins Olympiacos - Greek titleholders busy on Deadline Day
This article was initially published on September 15 but later updated with new information.
Olympiacos continue to go for high-profile names when it comes to new signings. After the Greek titleholders completed the transfers of former free agent Marcelo earlier this month and ex-Real Madrid star James Rodríguez on Thursday, among others, another deal is done. Cédric Bakambu joins the club in a three-year deal.
The 31-year-old striker had only joined Olympique Marseille last winter after four years in China, but could not establish himself as a regular in France. In the second half of last season, Bakambu only started four games, while in the current campaign he made just three brief appearances and has not been called up to the squad twice recently. The right-footed forward was also absent from OM’s 25-man Champions League list.

The club thus passed on a transfer fee to save Bakambu’s salary. Unlike other clubs in Europe, Olympiacos were allowed to sign the 40-time DR Congo international, because the transfer window in the Greek Super League was still open until Thursday.
