Nicholas Gioacchini joins Como - St. Louis CITY SC receive significant fee

St. Louis CITY SC have transferred Nicholas Gioacchini to Serie B side Como 1907. Transfermarkt understands that the Major League Soccer side are set to receive in the region of €2 million plus future incentives that could see the deal grow by another €2m. It is the be the biggest transfer in the still short history of the club (overview).

The deal will also constitute a significant transfer profit for the club managed by Lutz Pfannenstiel. After all, St. Louis CITY SC acquired Gioacchini in the expansion draft from league competitor Orlando City. Gioacchini then went on to score ten goals and one assist in 32 games during St. Louis’ expansion season, helping the club to an incredible first place finish in the Western Conference.

With that in mind, it is perhaps not surprising that clubs in Europe have taken note of the US men’s national team player’s progress. Gioacchini, in turn, has been interested for some time for a second chance in Europe. The 23-year-old forward previously played with SM Caen in Ligue 2 and Montpellier in Ligue 1. The stint with Montpellier, however, was a disappointment as Gioacchini failed to score in 28 Ligue 1 games, which resulted in a free transfer to Orlando City in July 2022.

Gioacchini to Como – Striker has Italian passport

The hope is that Gioacchini, who has an Italian passport will be able to conserve his excellent goalscoring form from the 2023 MLS season when he moves to Italy. Indeed, Como is an interesting landing spot for the striker. Third in Serie B, the club has ambitions to reach promotion to Serie A and is in dire need for a hot striker. With that in mind, this could be a perfect place for Gioacchini to fulfill his European dream the second time around.
